LGBT+ Specialist
Anti-Abuse Education

LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence are at the heart of our expert education programmes.

Galop is the UK’S LGBT+ anti-abuse charity.

We work with and for LGBT+ victims and survivors of interpersonal abuse and violence.

We offer professional training, consultancy and support for the commercial, statutory and not-for-profit sectors.

Galop works directly with around ten thousand LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting  victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual  violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do.

We run three national support helplines: one for LGBT+ victims and survivors of domestic abuse, one for LGBT+ people who have experienced hate crime, and the other for victims and survivors of so-called conversion therapies and practices. We provide advocacy services, both in London and nationally, for LGBT+ victims who need longer-term support. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them and then supporting them through their journey.

Why choose Galop?

We offer professional training, consultancy, and support for the commercial, statutory, and not-for-profit sectors. Learning with Galop means more than just checking a box. We bring unmatched expertise in LGBT+ anti-violence, informed by over 40 years of frontline experience and leading national research.

With insights drawn from thousands of LGBT+ individuals affected by abuse annually, we hold the largest evidence base of abuse and violence perpetrated against LGBT+ people in Europe.

Our courses aim to improve LGBT+ well-being, allyship, safety, and to foster trust with the LGBT+ community.

Our values

From our specialist frontline work and national research, we have learned that every professional has a role to play in creating a safer future for LGBT+ victims and survivors.

Create change and improve systems

Our training is trauma-informed, empowerment-based, and reflects the unique experiences of thousands of LGBT+ victims and survivors.

The needs of our community come first. We want to help you to create change and improve outcomes for LGBT+ people across the UK.

Empower LGBT+ victims and survivors

All of our training aims to teach you how to empower LGBT+ victims and survivors to have full choice and control in their lives.

Our trainers build a safe space so that you can 'get it wrong' with us, rather than with an LGBT+ person who's facing additional vulnerability.

Build safe and inclusive
spaces

We know that most organisations want to provide safe and inclusive spaces for LGBT+ victims and survivors.

Our training will help you develop the necessary skills and confidence to truly be a safe and affirmative space for LGBT+ victims and survivors.

Reducing barriers can start with you

LGBT+ people who experience abuse can face additional barriers to support, including not knowing whether their identity, relationships, or experiences will be understood and accepted, or whether the services they access will discriminate against them because they’re LGBT+.

We will help you unlock your intersectional lens of abuse and violence to recognise the diverse experiences of LGBT+ victims and survivors.

With Galop, you can learn how to reduce discrimination, promote inclusion, and challenge the stereotypes that limit all of us.

Charity attendee

"The training session was really informative. Delivering this kind of training session by an LGBT+ service definitely makes the learning more valuable as we are learning from direct lived experience."

LGBT+ attendee

"It felt so nice to be in an obviously inclusive space. I rarely have that experience at work and to be honest wasn't even really conscious that I don't until we're started talking and I suddenly realised all the things I could say in your space that I might not feel comfortable saying in any other work environment."

Corporate attendee

"You were excellent at creating a safe space, raising awareness, busting some myths, giving people some questions to grapple with and sharing your own insights. You also kept bringing it back to the employers’ perspective, giving them some practical takeaways, which is exactly what we needed."
